8 Miles

I ran (/walked) 8 miles again! Today I ran it in 85 minutes! That's 7 minutes better than the first time! I'm STOKED! Especially because I went on a short run earlier today but had to stop because my foot was hurting me! Tonights run was so much better. The sunset was absolutely amazing! Maybe I should add a camera to my running gear!

New Distance Record!

My plan to run 8 miles yesterday was foiled. Sunday I didn't get to the grocery so I had to go last night. I volunteer on Monday nights until 6pm. The plan was to go home eat dinner, go to the grocery while my food settled, and hit the pavement around 8-830. Long story short, I was trapped at the place I volunteer until about 630-700 waiting for the police to show up, which made everything else run later, which meant it was dark out by the time I was done at the grocery and I was exhausted.

I was afraid my run tonight was not going to happen either. I left work half hour later than expected and it took me 3x's as long to get home because of an accident on the highway (which was gone by the time I made it there). I decided to eat something quick and small, get ready and hit the pavement. I made a peanut butter sandwich with natural chunky peanut butter and an Arnold Select sandwich thin. Got ready and out I went. I was SO excited to make this new distance record! Here's how the run went...

Mile 1 - A bit humid, but that was okay because the sun was going down
Mile 2.5 - I should NOT have eaten that sandwich, I'm pretty sure I'm going to toss my cookies!
Miles 3-4.5 Went okay, my stomach wasn't so bad. I was really surprised that I saw maybe 1 person on the trail the whole time.
Mile 4.5-5.0 - Okay, enough is enough, I'm going to get sick. I stop and walk, and wouldn't you know like 15 people pass by. What the heck?
Mile 6.0-6.5 -  I decided to hold on to my cookies. I stopped for a drink of water and it helped tremendously!
Mile 6.5-7.5 - All up hill! Really?!? That was the toughest mile of all!
Mile 7.5-8 - WOO-HOO! Reminding myself that you never regret a good run!

The bugs were out all over the place tonight.. I won't go in to all the details, but I even found one by my belly button - and I had a shirt on! Ewww!

Oh yes, and I had another Snow White moment on my run tonight. I passed about 5 bunny rabbits that were on the trail that just stayed put and watched me run by. Literally less than 3 feet away from me! Kind of odd. Maybe this is all just a dream?!?

I searched today, hoping I could find someplace I logged my miles for the first half of the year, but to no avail. This 1010 is going to be tough but I'm going to try my hardest!

One more thing... I'm having a REALLY difficult in the nutrition department. I signed up for Livestrong a while ago; entered my height, weight, and fitness goals. I follow the calorie advice and  add more calories when I log work outs. I'm still finding myself hungry throughout the day, and my BF is at a standstill. Any advice?

1010 in 2010

In my search for running blogs, I came across Katye’s Blog. She has a challenge to run 1,010 miles in 2010. Unfortunately I did not log my miles for the first half of the year. I ran them, don’t get me wrong, but I did not write them down. So, I’m starting fresh, which means I have a LOT of catching up to do. As of today, I only have 48 miles logged. With 28 weeks left in the year, I will have to log 35 miles a week for the rest of the year. That leaves no room for slacking on my part! You should join the challenge! Contact Katye and let her know if you’re joining!

Oh Deer

Wednesday night Chad and I went running at the park. It was not nearly as humid as previous days, so it was really nice. We don’t always run together, it just depends on which course we’re on, or what our running goal is for the day. Chad said he didn’t want to be there for an hour, so the 8 miler I was going to attempt was a no-go.
Off I went running my little heart out when up ahead, a deer was standing in the middle of the path. I figured he would move, after all, I was darting right toward him. But no, he just stood there and stared at me. Really?!? So I got about 15 feet away and started walking. THEN he decides to take about 10 steps in to the field and just stare at me. I was hoping he didn’t charge after me once I passed. You never know with animals! It was neat to be able to be that close to him. That apparently was the night for deer to be out; on the way back we passed a field that had 5 deer, and then further up there were 3 more. I wish I would have taken a picture. Unfortunately a camera is not part of my running ensemble.
Wednesday ended with a 3.5 mile run. I am still using the couch-to-5K to try and improve my time. Right now it’s a little frustrating; I’m supposed to walk for 2 minutes in between running but am only doing 90 seconds of walking because 2 minutes feels too long. 90 seconds actually feels too long as well, but I don’t want to get ahead of myself. So I still try and tough it out and walk the full time. I know I am running faster on my spurts though. Chad made a comment that he had to ‘keep up with his fast wife’. That’s a first! He’s usually way ahead of me!!!

Chad didn’t get to see the deer on the path. I guess the deer decided to leave before Chad got to him.

7 Miles...

I know that may not sound like a lot to some people, but for me, it's a new record. 6 was my longest distance before today, but today I slammed right through that number! Well, maybe not slammed so much as huffed, puffed, poured down in sweat and drug myself through that number ;)

My main goal right now is to be able to run a 5K without walking and at a decent pace. Two years ago I could do it, so I know I can do it again. I'm not sure if I'm doing this the proper way, but I'm using the Couch to 5K plan and running as hard as I can for the allotted time; hoping this will get me to my goal at the end of the training schedule.

To treat myself for my new distance, I came home - got two bags of frozen fruit... Those are for my knees ;) Made chicken, brown rice, steamed veggies in rosemary sauce... and a sprite. Ha, Ha! I was craving a sprite for some reason, so I treated myself!

When people say the run a half or run a marathon / ultra, do they literally run the entire thing or do they ever stop and walk (not including water stops)? What are your goals?

A new course…

Sunday morning I only had a half hour to get a run in. I decided I would try a new course. I ran one way and discovered that the back streets did not have any sidewalks. It was 930AM, so the streets were a little busy and I didn’t want to run on those. So I turned back around (less than .1 mile) and headed the other way. There were so many business driveways that I had to stop at for cars to get in and out of. It was a little frustrating. I got to my half way time and turned back around to head home. I checked my mileage on the computer… 2.14… WHAT?!? That’s it? I was really disappointed! It wasn’t the best way to start off my week (in the running aspect that is). Oh well. Today is a new day. I’m going to push hard on today’s course to make up for lost time!

New Blog...

I decided to start a new blog for all of my running info. I've always enjoyed running, but just recently decided to start being more committed to it.

Two weeks ago I ran a 5K. I was SO excited the night before that I could NOT fall asleep. I am not fast by any means. I finished in 32:28. My goal right now is to improve my mile time.

My goals current goals are:
For 2010, I plan to do 2 5K’s, and 1 10K.
For 2011, I plan to do 2 10K’s and 1 half marathon.
For 2012, I plan to run my first full marathon.

These goals may change if I want to do some races sooner than later!

Hope you will follow me on my journey to offer advice and encouragement!
